It’s no secret that the material handling and logistics industry faces a workforce challenge, both in attracting good workers to our field and in training them. MHI has been focused on this issue for many years, making it a key topic at MODEX and ProMat Expos. We’re also continuously building a collection of educational resources for both the secondary school and postsecondary levels.

Among these resources is MHI’s College Industry Council on Material Handling Education (CICMHE). The group addresses the needs of professors and students in four-year university-level programs. Founded more than 60 years ago, CICMHE is composed of 16 college and university educators, as well as industry members. They prepare and present information, teaching materials and events that support material handling education and research.

As one of those events, CICMHE and the Material Handling Equipment Distributors Association (MHEDA) present the annual Material Handing & Logistics Classroom Day at each of MHI’s expos, including this year’s installment at MODEX on Wednesday, March 19. The day-long event invites students from four-year higher education programs in engineering, technology, manufacturing, operations, supply chain and logistics to tour the show floor and participate in an on-site design contest.
