In July, MHI presented the eighth annual Career & Technical Education (CTE) Educators Summit, hosted for the second time by the Lehigh Career & Technical Institute (LCTI) of Schnecksville, PA. The location served as the site of the inaugural Summit in 2009, which was formerly called the “Train-The-Trainer” event.
Designed to encourage networking and interaction, the Summit’s content is exclusively for instructors, program directors and administrators who teach the skills necessary to prepare students for jobs in warehousing, distribution, logistics and supply chain. Educators from across the country are introduced to new and varied instructional materials and teaching techniques.
Although the location was a repeat, little else about the 2016 Educators Summit event was.
That’s because just as the material handling, supply chain and logistics industries evolve, so too have the curricula and instructional materials, while the number of programs and instructors has grown concurrently, says David Rubright. He retired from his position as LCTI’s Workforce Education Coordinator in 2015, but returned as a member of this year’s Educators Summit Planning Committee (as well as a participant).
“Attendees represented community colleges, high schools, correctional facilities and workforce training agencies from Washington D.C. and 11 different states: California, Florida, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas and Virginia,” he notes. “Additionally, the first-ever international educator joined the Summit from Chennai, India.”
