Using Analytics to Determine Walmart’s Future DC Operations
Esmaeel Moradi brings a lot of academic firepower to his role as logistics planning manager for Walmart, and that’s a good thing because it’s a pretty demanding job. Since November 2015, Moradi has worked at the company’s headquarters in Bentonville, AR, focusing on distribution network design, forecasting and data analysis for the nation’s largest retailer and private-sector employer.
Moradi is part of the analytics team that helps Walmart determine how many distribution centers it will need in the future, where those distribution centers should be located, which of the company’s stores should be assigned to those distribution centers, how its transportation network can operate most efficiently, how much of each retail item should be ordered and how those items should enter the distribution chain to best meet demand.
