Where Are They Now? Catching up with an MHEFI Scholarship Recipient

EVEN AS A teenager, Carolina Remond was hooked on supply chain logistics, and that’s why she chose to attend the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville.
“I knew in high school that I wanted to pursue supply chain management, and the university is consistently ranked number one nationally for that,” Remond said. “Whatever part of the supply chain I’m in, I want to consider ways to make sustainable choices that would impact XYZ product or XYZ supply chain.”
While in school, she interned at The J.M. Smucker Co. in its customer logistics supply chain division, and last year, she graduated with a double degree in supply chain management and marketing. Remond was also a 2024‑2025 Material Handling Education Foundation, Inc. (MHEFI) scholarship recipient.
“I’m immensely grateful to receive the MHEFI scholarship,” she said. “Along with other scholarships, it allowed me to graduate debt‑free—to date, my biggest point of pride.”
The MHEFI has awarded more than $2.5 million in scholarships and grants since its inception in 1976. It’s an independent charitable organization dedicated to supporting the study of material handling, logistics and supply chain management, exposing students to the industry’s many career opportunities.
More than 1,500 students and educators have benefited from MHEFI support, and for the 2025‑2026 academic year, the organization awarded 71 scholarships totaling a record $278,000.
After graduation, Remond began her career at The Boeing Co. in St. Louis.
“Working at Boeing is exciting and intense—and it very much allows me to feel very connected to current global matters,” Remond said.
Her first position there was procuring engineering design software for Boeing Defense, Space & Security, which builds aircraft, including F‑15 and F‑18 fighter jets, for the U.S. government. This spring, she transitioned to the procurement team for Boeing Global Services, which retrofits aircraft for international clients approved by the U.S. government.
“The engineers give us procurement authorizing documents, and from there, we bid it out to competing suppliers,” Remond said. “We then collaborate with the suppliers to get better pricing and faster lead times. I feel very privileged to be able to get the best bang for the buck.”
In her free time, she spends many hours outdoors, exploring the local parks and other highlights of her newly adopted city. Remond also loves to play board games with her friends, either at a neighborhood bar/café with hundreds of board games or at parties at her home.
