Catching up with an MHEFI Scholarship Recipient

DEAN MOUNT IS keen on industrial engineering because the discipline focuses on “the big picture.” Mount was a 2024‑2025 Material Handling Education Foundation, Inc. (MHEFI) scholarship recipient
“Instead of designing a product, you get to organize all the variables of a process. That broader scope appeals to me,” says Mount, who graduated in 2025 with a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering at North Dakota State University in Fargo.
During school breaks he interned at various companies, including Boston Scientific Corp., a medical device company headquartered in Marlborough, Mass., which later offered Mount a job as an industrial engineer in one of the company’s facilities based in Maple Grove, Minn.
Mount also loves project management and working with people, which is why he earned an MBA just a year later.
“I like to help an organization strategize to meet its goals,” Mount says. “I also really like balancing multiple projects and priorities, communicating with stakeholders at all levels and helping to make processes flow more efficiently within an organization. An MBA also teaches you about organizational behavior—understanding how to be the best version of yourself in the workplace, and how to encourage others to do the same.”
Being a MHEFI scholarship recipient has helped Mount embark on his career goals. The scholarship proceeds enabled Mount to pay for the university’s MBA 4+1 program, an accelerated program that allowed him to start taking graduate‑level MBA classes while still an undergraduate. Some of the MBA classes were also pertinent to industrial engineering, like supply chain management, organizational strategy and production control.
