Emphasizing the critical need for flexibility in logistics, the Warehousing Education & Research Council (WERC) proudly announces the release of its 2024 DC Measures Annual Survey and Report on Industry Metrics. This comprehensive report, unveiled at the WERC Annual Conference in Dallas, Texas, provides essential insights into the evolving warehousing landscape.
Citing the dynamic nature of the warehousing industry, the report states, “Surviving—indeed, thriving—in this new landscape involves three basic principles: flexibility, efficiency and differentiation.”
Technological Advancements
To help warehouses and distribution centers (DCs) enhance their performance, the report offers 38 key operational metrics for benchmarking. Each metric includes a clear definition, making it a valuable tool to optimize operations.
Continuation of ESG Metrics
For the second year, DC Measures explored how warehouse and DC managers are adjusting to the new environmental, social and governance (ESG) standards being applied across the industry. The 2024 report found a more favorable perception of ESG among respondents compared to the previous year.
The report also examines the expanding role of technology in the industry. Inventory management emerged as the leading area where respondents are integrating new technologies. Looking ahead, sortation systems are identified as the top technology for future innovation plans.
Online Benchmarking Tool
In addition to the DC Measures report, WERC has also updated the Online Benchmarking Tool. This digital resource hosts a compilation of all DC Measures data since 2013. It is designed to help practitioners, 3PLs and consultants customize benchmarking data to quickly meet internal evaluation needs. Adjustable parameters include industry, operation type, preferred metrics and more.
The DC Measures Study has been conducted for 21 years to help warehouses and DCs improve operational performance. The 2024 report was created in partnership with DC Velocity.
